Signs of Problem Gambling

Problem gambling is defined as "gambling behaviour that creates negative consequences for the gambler, others in his or her social network, or for the community."

How to recognize problem gambling

Answering yes to these questions may be a warning sign that you have a problem with gambling:

  • Do you bet more than you can really afford to lose?
  • Do you gamble with increasingly larger amounts of money to get the same feeling of excitement?
  • Have you gone back another day to try to win back the money you bet previously?
  • Do you borrow money or sell things to get money to gamble?
  • Do you feel that you might have a problem with gambling?
  • Do family or friends criticize your betting or tell you that you have a gambling problem, regardless of whether or not you think it is true?
  • Do you feel guilty about the way you gamble or about what happens when you gamble?
  • Is your gambling causing you health problems, such as stress or anxiety?
  • Is your gambling causing financial problems for you or your household?
