Gam Talk

GamTalk - Online Support Forum

GamTalk.org is Canada's first national online community supporting people with gambling-related issues. GamTalk, was developed by chartered psychologist Dr. Richard Wood. He receives sponsorship funding from gaming jurisdictions across Canada, including AGLC. This week Richard advised that he's making a concerted effort to enhance the storytelling section of the Forum.

According to Richard, "there is no one-size-fits-all approach to beating a gambling problem, so having lots of different options to try is extremely useful." Many problem gamblers turn to the support of friends or families. Others seek out professional counselling or join Gamblers Anonymous. However there are still many problem gamblers who resist the notion of getting help, even though they know they have a problem. They want to go it alone.

This is where GamTalk can be invaluable.

There's no need to make an appointment, or to admit to someone that you need help. Instead you will find a community of supporters facing similar issues, all ready to share their experience.

Of course there are always opportunities to improve.

Its Stories of Hope project is a unique online resource helping people with gambling problems across Canada and beyond by gathering together personal stories about successfully beating a gambling problem.

The Stories of Hope section allows forum members to share their stories of recovery.

"Finding out that others have successfully dealt with a gambling problem can be the boost needed to begin the road to recovery and the stories provide practical ideas and strategies as well."

If you or someone you know has personal experience of problem gambling and recovery, why not consider submitting it? It might be just the ticket that gets someone else moving on their own journey of recovery.
